What a jewellery website needs before you spend a rupee on ads

Advertising sends people to your website. If product pages can't answer the questions jewellery buyers ask, the budget leaks away. Here's the checklist we use first.

Jewellery is one of the hardest categories to sell online. The product is small, detailed and expensive, and the buyer usually wants to see it in person. Advertising can bring the right people to your website, but it can't make up for a site that leaves them with unanswered questions.

Before increasing ad spend, we look at five things. If any of them are weak, fixing them is usually a better investment than more traffic.

1. Imagery that shows what a showroom would

Buyers want to see sparkle, finish and scale. A single white-background photo rarely does that. Aim for a consistent set for each product: a clean front view, a close-up of the detail, the piece on a model or hand for scale, and a short video that shows movement.

  • Use the same lighting and backgrounds across a collection
  • Show the piece at actual size alongside a familiar reference
  • Add zoom on product images, and test it on a phone

2. Specifications in plain language

Metal, purity, weight, stone details and certification should be easy to find, not hidden in a description paragraph. Present them as a short, scannable list near the price or enquiry button.

3. Trust signals at the moment of decision

High-value purchases carry risk. Put your reassurance where the decision happens: certification details, hallmarking, returns and exchange terms, delivery and insurance information, and how to visit or contact the store.

4. The right next step for each product

Not every piece should have an add-to-cart button. Everyday pieces often sell well through checkout. Bridal, bespoke and high-value pieces often convert better through an enquiry, WhatsApp chat or appointment request. Decide product by product rather than forcing one model across the whole catalogue.

5. Tracking that sees every enquiry

If your best customers call or message on WhatsApp, but your ads only count online purchases, your campaigns will optimise for the wrong thing. Track calls, WhatsApp clicks, appointment requests and form submissions as conversions so the ad platforms learn who your real buyers are.

Where to start

Pick your ten best-selling or highest-margin products and review each page against this list. Fixing those pages first gives your advertising the best possible landing place, and the improvements can be rolled out across the catalogue from there.

Your next big move starts here.
